The Maria salt and pepper shaker is the work of Lars Janas and Daniyal Mustafa, two industrial design students at the Howest University of Applied Sciences in Belgium. Marble and walnut wood were the basis for a reflection on industrial manufacturing.

The choice of materials centred on marble and walnut wood, a complementarity between elements that sought to establish a balance of shapes with elegance.
The design of the three elements sought to emphasise the contrast between the raw materials and a focus on industrial manufacture. The source of inspiration came from architecture, in the twisted-looking skyscrapers that in construction show how meticulously the detail and precision of the structure has been thought out.

The project was the result of a multitude of experiments, using different machines and techniques. The basic idea was decided and the structure flowed in the desired direction.
From the sketches to the combination of techniques for cutting the marble, the whole took on the desired characteristics. The composition took into account the interplay between layers of wood, the harmonious distribution of weight, functionality and the intuitive handling of the pieces.

Lars Janas and Daniyal Mustafa are looking for partners to produce the Maria set, through companies that share, like them, the values of excellence and high quality production.
